Terms

Last updated 28 October 2026

Halcyon is run by ByBirth Pty Ltd (ABN 81 701 688 182), in New South Wales, Australia. These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use it. The short version: use Halcyon for your own work, keep your account safe, pay for Pro if you choose it, and don’t abuse the service.

Your account

  • You’re responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself.
  • You need to be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
  • If you sign up for a business, you’re agreeing to these terms on its behalf, and you confirm you’re allowed to.

Workspaces and plans

  • Everything in Halcyon happens in a workspace. Each workspace has one owner, and its own plan: Free or Pro.
  • Free costs nothing, within the limits shown on the pricing. Pro lifts them and is paid for by the workspace’s owner, priced by the people in it.
  • A limit stops something new being added. Limits can change; when they go down, workspaces already on a plan keep the limits they had.

Paying for Pro

  • Our order process is run by our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record for every Pro order: it takes payment, issues receipts and tax invoices, and handles billing questions and refunds. Paddle’s buyer terms apply to the purchase.
  • Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Pro is billed monthly or yearly, in advance, and renews automatically until you cancel.
  • Pro’s price covers a number of people; each person past that is an extra seat. When someone joins or leaves a Pro workspace, the change shows on the next bill, prorated. Nothing is charged mid-period.
  • You can cancel at any time from the workspace’s Plan settings. Pro continues to the end of the period you’ve paid for, then the workspace is Free again.
  • If a workspace is over Free’s limits when Pro ends, it carries on as normal for 3 days, and its owner is emailed. After that it’s paused: everyone in it can still see and download everything, but nothing can be added or changed until it’s within Free’s limits or on Pro again. Nothing is ever deleted for you; what goes is up to the owner.
  • If we change Pro’s price, it applies only to new purchases. Existing subscriptions keep the price they were bought at.
  • Refunds: see the refund policy. In short, any payment can be refunded within 14 days, no questions asked.

Your data

What you put into Halcyon stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only as far as that’s needed to run the service for you. The privacy policy says what that involves. You can delete it at any time, the API can read it out, and if you ask, we’ll send you a copy.

Fair use

  • Don’t use Halcyon to store anything unlawful or to harm anyone.
  • Don’t try to get into other people’s workspaces, get around the plan limits, or overload the service, including through the API.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that do. Unless the law or a real risk to others stops us, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to take your data with you.

Invoices and tax

Halcyon helps you produce invoices, track time and record money, but you’re responsible for what your invoices say and for meeting your own tax obligations. Check anything that matters before you send or lodge it.

The service

  • We work to keep Halcyon running and your data safe, and keep backups. But no service is perfect, and features may change.
  • If we ever plan to shut Halcyon down, we’ll tell you at least 60 days ahead, give you a way to take your data with you, and refund any time you’ve paid for past the closing date.

Our responsibility

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law that can’t be excluded. Within those limits, Halcyon is provided as is, and we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits or data you could have kept a copy of. Our total liability for anything to do with Halcyon is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or, where the law allows, to supplying the service again or paying for it to be supplied again.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can cancel and leave before then.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and its courts can hear any dispute.
